What does a day with feed tracking look like?

A day with BarnOps feed tracking starts with one list: every active horse that has grain, hay, supplements, feed-time medications or care tasks due, sorted by name or by stall. At a 40-stall barn, the morning feeder opens Feeding Rounds on her phone at 6:30 AM. Each horse card shows its grain lines, forage lines, supplements, and a soak alert if the horse needs soaked grain, soaked hay or soaked feed. Horses whose owners have an approved away flag drop off the list for those dates.

She feeds down the aisle and taps AM Fed on each card, or switches to Select mode, picks a row of horses and marks them all fed at once. Maple has a joint supplement and an AM medication, so the medication checkoff unlocks only after Maple is marked fed for that round. If Maple left half her grain, the feeder adds a round note. If the horse has stall water monitoring turned on, a bulk check-off also records that water was checked and filled.

By 9:00 AM, any horse with feed work still not marked for AM shows as Missed, and the barn owner sees a missed AM feeding alert on the app dashboard. PM uses a 6:00 PM cutoff. When someone reviews yesterday's round, they see the instructions in place when it was logged, even if the plan changed overnight.

What gets recorded?

BarnOps records the feed plan on each horse and a dated AM and PM record for every feeding day.

• ✓Main grain or feed product, brand, amount per feeding (for example 4 lbs or 2 scoops) and frequency (once daily, twice daily, three or four times daily, free choice, or as needed).

Who can see and change it?

Barn owners, managers and staff can see and check off feeding for every horse in the barn. Boarders can see and check off feeding only for horses they own, and only while the barn leaves the Feed horses permission on. It is on by default, and the barn can turn it off for all boarders or for one boarder. Instructors do not get the feeding list. When anyone edits a horse's feed or medication instructions, BarnOps can send a Horse care update push notification to owners, managers and staff, naming the fields that changed.

What are the limits?

Feed tracking covers what each horse gets and whether each round happened, not feed room stock.

• ✓There are two fixed rounds, AM and PM. A third midday feed can be written into the plan, but it has no separate check-off.
• ✓Missed status uses fixed cutoffs of 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM and appears only when viewing today. Barns can also turn on missed-feeding push alerts in Settings; they are off by default and use their own alert times.
• ✓BarnOps does not track feed room inventory, bags on hand or feed cost.
• ✓The web dashboard can check off today's feed only. Past days and medication confirmations are handled in the mobile app.
• ✓Saves need a connection. If a check-off fails, the app shows an error so it can be retried.

How do you set it up?

• ✓Add each horse and fill in the Feeding Plan step: grain, hay, supplements, soak settings and special needs.
• ✓Leave Include this horse in Feeding Rounds on, or turn it off for horses whose feed details you want saved without daily check-offs.
• ✓Add feed-time medications or care tasks on the horse profile so they appear on the round.
• ✓Decide whether boarders may feed their own horses, then invite staff so they can open Feeding Rounds on their phones.
